The Sekani trail run is a 5k/10k event (plus a free Kids’ 1k) located at Spokane’s beautiful Minnehaha Park, bordering the 125 acre natural area of Camp Sekani Park. The run is an adventure run/hike/walk race with 100% dirt trails and fabulous course challenges with ~800 feet of elevation gain for the 10k run! The trails run above the Spokane River and provide great views of the City of Spokane and surrounding areas.

The Kid’s 1k starts at 9:30 am; followed by the 10k start at 10 am; and the 5k start at 10:15 am.

This is a great event for both experienced trail runners and those getting into trial running for the first time. If this is your first trial run, be warned, you will get addicted to trail running!

This event is 100% volunteer run and all proceeds benefit Franklin Elementary school’s APPLE program.

COURSE MAPS:

The 2025 race will begin and end in Minnehaha Park this year due to parking lot construction at Camp Sekani.

5k Course

The 5k course starts in the beautiful Minnehaha Park and then takes you up to nearly the top of “Esmerelda Trail” until the aid station. Then you will run back down “Yard Sale” until it reconnects to “Esmerelda Trail,” which you will take all the way back to the start/finish! The course will be well marked.

There is roughly 500 feet elevation gain on the 5k course.

10k Course

The 10k course is more challenging. This course also starts in the beautiful Minnehaha Park and then takes you up to nearly the top of “Esmerelda Trail” until the aid station. You will then connect to the “Wiggler” trail; which will take you to “Covid Quarantine.” Then briefly on to “Disorderly Conduct” followed by “The Yard.” At the end of “The Yard,” you will see a sharp hairpin turn as you connect with “Upchuck” for the second half of the course. From “Upchuck” you will connect with “Will’s Traverse” for some of our favorite single track of the course. From “Will’s” Traverse” you will hop onto “Airport Escalator” as you head up Beacon Hill, then back onto “Upchuck” for the last switchback climb to the top. From the top of Beacon Hill you will connect with the very top portion of “Esmerelda Trail” for a few quick switchbacks down to the aid station. Then you will run down “Yard Sale” until it reconnects to “Esmerelda Trail,” which you will take all the way back to the start/finish! The course will be well marked.

There is roughly 1,000 feet elevation gain on the 10k course.

AID STATIONS:

5k: There will be one aid/water station on the 5k course. The aid/water station is located at the turn around point, just over halfway through the course.

10k: There is one aid/water station on the 10k course, but you will pass it twice. The 10k course is shaped like a figure 8 or a bow. Due to the shape of the 10k course, the aid/water station is ideally located in the center of the figure 8 (or bow). You will pass it first at roughly mile 1.5, and again at around mile 4.5.

Please help us keep this amazing park clean by depositing all garbage (including cups, gel and energy bar wrappers, etc.) in the provided receptacles.

MEDALS:

Medals will be awarded to the top three males and females in both the 5k and 10k divisions.

DOGS:

Dogs are great, but please leave them at home for this event.
